Anne Mugisha for Nakawa - Let us Fundraise for Change!

Am reaching out to friends to help me raise funds or to volunteer for my campaign. A few weeks ago I announced my intention to represent the people of Nakawa Division, Kampala District, in Uganda's Parliament.

As you know I have always been concerned about exclusion of many Ugandans from access to economic opportunity and basic social services. I believe I can make a positive contribution towards realizing our goals of an equitable and just society through Parliament and I am requesting your financial support.

This campaign will require a strong and organized grassroots organization. I have so far met community leaders in Nakawa and received their overwhelming and humbling endorsement of my decision to run against the incumbent MP. I will need brochures, flyers, yard signs, radio messages, tv informercials and door-to-door campaigns to canvass. I have attached a poster and flyer that have been developed for the campaign. I cannot do this alone. That’s why I’m inviting the people that know me best to join my campaign and help make a real difference.

An early contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500 or UGX1000/=, 10,000/= 100,000, 1,000,000/= to my campaign will help raise the initial funds needed to launch the campaign. You can make a contribution conveniently to my Paypal Account using a debit or credit card or using your own Paypal account. Click the following link (or paste it in your browser) and follow the simple instructions to donate.

Alternatively you can email me anne@fdcuganda or text/call me on 0791 77 00 55 (after Aug 18th) and let me know how you would like me to receive your donation to me in Uganda shillings. I also welcome volunteers and any non-monetray contribution that you can make to the campaign.

Together we can make a positive change.

The Task Ahead

Let me share with you some information about political participation in the leadership of Forum for Democratic Change, Nakawa Division.  The Division has 23 parishes and 215 polling stations.

On August 28th, 2010, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) plans to elect a Polling Area Branch [PAB] Committee at all 215 polling stations.  The PAB is the party's grasroots organization and is composed of all party members in the polling area.  It is responsible for electing 21 committee members representing various interests including secretaries for women, youth, persons with disabilities, health, education, mobilization and so on.  The PAB committees form the Party Parish Conference which is then responsible for electing a Parish Executive Committee.  I will be standing for the position of Chairperson at my PAB in Bugolobi as a first step towards contesting for party flag bearer for Member of Parliament, Nakawa Constituency.

On September 4th, 2010, the Nakawa division conference which will includes all parish party branch committee members and the existing division executive will elect the Division Executive Committee.

On September 5th 2010, the chairpersons of these 215 Polling Area Branches, the Parish Executive Committee and Division Executive Committee will elect the FDC party flag bearer for MP, Nakawa Constituency and I will be contesting.

Our first task for mobilization therefore is to ensure that the public is aware of the leadership opportunities in FDC.  Voters should know the critical date of the first elections at th PAB which is August 28th 2010, and plan to attend and stand for positions of leadership.  We are interested in using this opportunity to invite and mobilize all Ugandan voters resident in Nakawa Division, particularly the women and youth to take up positions of leadership in FDC.

In order to participate as leaders voters must be card-holding members of FDC.  Cards cost only 1000/= and they are available at party headquarters on Entebbe Road.  If anyone has any difficulty accessing party headquarters, please call me on 0791 77 00 55 next week or email me anne@fdcuganda.org now and I will make sure that you have a card and are ready to participate in the leadership of FDC.

If you are interested in being part of the electoral college that will elect me as flagbearer of FDC for MP, Nakawa Constituency, then you must aim to be the chairperson of your PAB or a member of your Parish Executive Committee.

Mark the date, August 28, 2010 and listen for announcements of the venue and time for elections for your Polling Area Branch.

In my next communication I will post the list of parishes and polling stations where you can participate in the leadership of the Forum for Democractic Change.
